Every time a patient visits a physician, after the
visit, diagnostic tests, and analysis, the physician
will record each and every aspect of the meeting, usually
as a dictation. This is kept either in the form of a
cassette or as a digital audio file in a remote server.
Once completed by the physician, these audio files are
then handed over to the medical transcriptionist, who
listens to the recording and transcribes the information
into text. This is filed away for the future reference
of the physician and regulatory bodies, either in hard
copies or, increasingly, as digital files in digital

hours, or they may need it returned within 4 hours.

turnaround times.
» Dictation quality: The cost
of the project may vary depending on the quality of
the dictation provided (accent, diction, name spellings,
and so forth).
